Kurdistan Region becomes Migration Policy Institute Europe (MPI Europe)’s member

ERBIL, Kurdistan Region (Kurdistan 24) – The Joint Crisis Coordination Center declared as part of the 9th cabinet’s work by the Ministry of Interior at the Kurdistan Regional Government.

The Ministry of Interior brought several international systems to the Kurdistan Region to improve the establishments of migration.

That led to further expansion of international relations with the regional government within the establishment’s remit.

The Joint Crisis Coordination Center at the Ministry of Interior officially became a member of the Migration Policy Institute Europe (MPI Europe), which includes all 27 EU migration institutions and all parties submitting projects on migration issues.

It was discussed that Kurdistan Region’s was one of the successful experiences.

Srwa Rasul, the Director General of the Joint Crisis Coordination Center (JCC) at the Ministry of Interior, together with Dilawar Azhgayi, Representative of the Kurdistan Regional Government to the European Union, attended a special meeting for MPI in Brussels on Wednesday October 2nd, 2024.

Ms. Rasul thanked the European Union and MPI for inviting the Kurdistan Regional Government, becoming a member and hosting the team.

The JCC Director General made a request regarding the share of the aid, being provided to refugees in other countries, to have to Kurdistan Region directly, as well as she pointed out that a large share is given to other parties in that matter.

Another important matter was discussed in the meeting in which the JCC’s Director General explained that due to the continuing financial crisis and the problems in the areas of Article 140 according to the Iraqi parliament constitution, also, the issue of Shingal agreement, “lives of thousands of people put in danger by the armed militias”

She stressed due to the climate change and its consequences, Kurd citizens should not be considered like Iraqis, the deportation shouldn’t apply to Kurds, because of the financial adversity and security circumstance.   

Sarwa called on all countries to work together to reduce the risks of the illegal migration, as well as states to facilitate visa procedures, legally provide job opportunities to our youths, so they get familiar with those countries’ experience and can serve Kurdistan Region in the future.

The Migration Policy Institute Europe, established in Brussels in 2011, is a nonprofit and independent research institute to understand migration in Europe and to promote an effective policymaking.

MPI Europe deals with research and practical policy design to governmental and nongovernmental stakeholders.

It is regarding migration, migrant integration, and asylum systems as well as successful outcomes for newcomers, families of migrants background, and receiving communities in Europe.
